What is Ceroc?
Ceroc is a funky, modern partner dance that can be done to any type of music. It has influences of latin, ballroom and more! It incorporates so many different styles and flavours that it can suit anyone of any age or background. Ceroc is another dance form (like tango, or salsa, or anything you would see on “Dancing With The Stars”) but just without all the tricky footwork. This makes Ceroc fun, easy and adaptable for all types of situations – whether it be at a wedding, ball or a night club.

Christine Berridge
Christine Berridge started dancing in 2006 and began teaching in 2009. She loves Ceroc dancing as she finds it is fun, energetic and a great way to stay fit. She loves meeting new Ceroc dancers from around New Zealand, going to dance events, and more recently competing. She's keen on other forms of partner dancing too; ballroom, salsa, rock ‘n’ roll and Argentine Tango, and is looking forward to seeing you on the dance floor!! Although a dance fanatic by night, Christine is a lecturer and industry placement advisor at The Pacific International Hotel School (something has to fund the dance shoe purchasing fetish!). Her placings at champs include:
1st: Triples - East & South Champs 2009 2nd: Triples - Taranaki Champs 2009 1st: Triples – Kapi-Hutt Champs 2010 2nd: Advanced Open Showcase – Kapi-Hutt Champs 2010 3rd: 45+ Freestyle - Kapi-Hutt Champs 2010 3rd: Triples – South Island Champs 2010
Tim Roper
Tim began his Ceroc dancing in Auckland many years ago, before life moved him down south to Dunedin. It wasn't until he moved to New Plymouth that he was able to put on his dancing shoes again and get back into the swing of things. Tim is a true “original” of the studio, being one of the familiar faces that seemed to have become part of the furniture after all these years.
Sophie Bishop
Sophie has been dancing Ceroc for around 3 years. With previous experience in jazz and ballet, she has found Ceroc easy to pick up and loves how Ceroc has such a broad range of influences. Although a busy Year 12 student at NP Girls’ High School, she can always find time to be at the studio – whether that be assisting with teaching, or working on developing her dancing furthermore for upcoming champs. Her Ceroc accomplishments so far include:
3rd: Advanced A Freestyle – Taranaki Champs 2009
2nd: Triples – Taranaki Champs 2009
1st: Triples – East and South Champs 2009
1st: Triples – Kapi-Hutt Champs 2010
2nd: Advanced Open Showcase – Kapi-Hutt Champs 2010
3rd: Triples – South Island Champs – 2010
Andy Erb
Andy started dancing in 2006. He joined Ceroc because he loves music and Ceroc dancing is a fun, social activity to be involved in. Andy assists with many classes within the studio, never passing up an opportunity to make use of his wicked sense of humour. He enjoys meeting new people and helping out the new beginners on the dance floor. Andy also loves the challenge of competing in Ceroc competitions and maximizing opportunities to learn and develop his own personal dancing style. Andy’s list of achievements at Ceroc Champs begins with a very proud and well-earned placing:

Frequently Asked Questions
When do I start?
Anytime! Just turn up and join in. If you want to watch one week to see what we’re all about before you join in, that’s fine as well. Each night a different routine is taught, so you can miss a few weeks and pick up where you left off last time. Needless to say, the more you come the better you get!
Do I need a partner?
No, although it is appreciated if you do, to ensure the numbers of the class don’t get too unbalanced. If the numbers are uneven, don’t worry; the classes are run on rotation. Every so often, you move on round, and that way you get to dance with everybody.
What do I wear?
Something that is comfortable to move in. Layers are good, because you are more than likely going to get warmer once the blood getting flowing! Comfortable shoes are a must, no heels that are too high or unstable. Bring a spare pair with you if in doubt.
How do classes work?
The class begins with a gentle warm up, just to get our bodies in gear. We then partner up and rotate around the room every so often. We teach you a move, you learn it, and then put it to music. Each routine usually covers 4-5 moves.
What dance experience do I need?
None whatsoever. Ceroc is designed so that there is no complicated footwork; it’s easy to just dance. If you’ve had prior dance experience, you’ll find it easy to pick up and will probably recognise other dance styles that have crossed over to the world of Ceroc.
How do I move up ?
Once you’ve been attending classes for a while, you would have picked up the basic 21 beginner Ceroc moves, and danced them to perfection. When you feel like you’re ready for more of a challenge and want to improve your dancing, have a chat to one of the teachers about moving up. They’ll have a few dances with you and let you know if they think you’re ready. We also suggest a “moving up” workshop, just to make sure you’re ready for the next step, and to pass on other vital bits of information that we don’t always get time to cover during class.
What is freestyle?
Freestyle is dancing “off the cuff” and is essentially what Ceroc is and was invented for. Once men have learnt and committed a few moves to memory (more than 1 or 2!) than we can dance those moves, in any combination, to any piece of music.
Competitons:
Although Ceroc is all about dance and the fun of it, competitions are held throughout the year for those of us that want to push ourselves that little bit further. Although they can be a lot of hard work they can be very rewarding and are a great way to improve our dancing. You also get to have a lot of great dances with fellow Cerocers and meet lots of friendly new people from all over the country.
Wedding Couples:
Private Lessons for wedding couples are also available and increasingly popular. Nobody seems to want to do the two-step shuffle anymore! Bring along a piece of music you had in mind, or leave it to us to help you decide and we’ll come up with a routine that will have the wedding guests in amazement! The routines we choreograph can cater for each individual couple and are completely unique. We can guarantee that we can get you dancing in no time, and we know how to get you dancing the most basic of moves - and looking a million dollars. We recommend a block course of at least four one-hour lessons to begin with (minimum) and then we take it from there. Needing a space to practise in between lessons, or as needed in the week leading up to the big day? We can arrange this for you also. Pricing is $50.00 per hour.
